September 3, 2019: The student-teachers from UNISSULA and UC came together to attend the Pembekalan Program Magang 3 or Internship 3 Workshop at UNISSULA for the improvement in writing the syllabus and lesson plans.

The program started at 8:00 am. The head of the English Education department, as well as some of their faculty members, spoke about the purpose of conducting the program and inspiring future teachers to do well in our teaching tasks. Then, Mr. Mat Ibnu (or Pak Mat Ibnu) became our resource speaker to teach us how to effectively write a syllabus and a lesson plan.

The lecture was informative and I learned so much from it since I am not completely familiar with how the lesson plans and syllabus are being written yet. Later on, it was rather shocking to know that most of the Indonesian school documents are written in Bahasa Indonesia. But Pak Ibnu explained and translated it in English so we could catch up. The other student-teachers are also kind enough to help us understand the lecture better.

Next, Pak Ibnu gave us time to create a syllabus in groups. Our group was composed of Walter, Alfin, Agung and I (the only boys in the room!) Then, our resource speaker asked us to present our output. Our group had a special output because he requested Walter and me to give an example of a syllabus made from the Philippines. So we did.

My presentation of our own syllabus

As soon as the workshop in writing a syllabus was done, we took a lunch break. I ate lunch together with the rest of the participants. Surprisingly enough, we bonded quite fast and all of us became friends in an instant. We shared some of our stories and let each other know about our respective cultures about traditions, food, etc. That moment was actually fun and interesting. It is my first real interaction with Indonesian people having the same age bracket and educational level.

Later that afternoon, we continued with the workshop. This time, the lecture focused on writing the lesson plan. It was difficult on my part since this is the first time that I would be writing a lesson plan using Indonesia's format. What makes it more challenging is that the language is written in Bahasa Indonesia. Consequently, we needed help again from the other student-teachers. It's really a good strategy to be mixed with a group of Indonesian people so we can get to know more about the process of writing it.

I think that we needed to put more effort if we really want to study it. Besides, it was interesting enough to discover and learn new things. With the help of our buddy, Mr. Alfin Candra, and the rest of the student-teachers, it made the learning process to be easier to understand. There is nothing more to do but to thank them and to appreciate the assistance that they did for us. Once again, thank you very much or as they say, Terima Kasih Semuanya!
