About Me

Hear It From Me: My Personal Mission in Teaching

LRM_EXPORT_118693412452063_20190905_1322

My name is Joven Jay Belga who was born and raised in Baguio City, Philippines. I took up Bachelor of Secondary Education major in English at the University of the Cordilleras. Being the only teacher in our family bloodline, I am proud to be the first in our generation to pursue my passion and to hopefully further my career.

I have only one mission in my chosen profession: to give every child an opportunity to learn. In one of our community service statements before in college, we had a theme that says, "walang batang bobo" [no child is illiterate]. This statement hit me the most since I strongly believe that the responsibility solely rests on the teacher's competence to teach the children, to hone their skills and talents in order for them to be fully prepared as they move up to higher grades/levels. That's why providing the right and appropriate learning opportunity is significant in shaping the child to be fully well-rounded.

I admit that I need to learn more in the teaching world. But with joining the SEA-Teacher Project, I believe that it is already my chance to be able to widen my knowledge and immerse myself to a different culture. Likewise, I can share our culture to others as well. In this way, I believe I can be able to reach a wider set of learners and increase my capabilities and knowledge as a teacher.

Education is one of the most basic necessities of human kind. As they say, "knowledge is power." And the only way our students can be powerful is if teachers can educate and transfer learning to best of their abilities.
