TRAVEL SPOT #6: Masjid Agung Jawa Tengah (MAJT)

Updated: Oct 6, 2019

September 27, 2019: Tickets were bought beforehand and we were deadset to visit Masjid Agung Jawa Tengah. Sadly, we were down to our last travel spot in Semarang, Indonesia. It was overwhelming, to say the least. Miss Nani, Walter, the rest of the student-teachers from UNISSULA and I arrived at MAJT around 6:30 pm. As soon as we saw it, I only thought of three words to describe this place: MAJESTIC, INCOMPARABLE AND WOW!

Our tickets to the MAJT tower

But before we moved closer, we went up to the tower first to have a bird's eye-view of Semarang. We even used a telescope to see the seaports and some far places. I must say that it was quite a sight! I almost felt emotional when we went up top and see the city lights which looked like stars that fell from the sky.

When the was time was over, all of us went downstairs and walked to the masjid. Miss Nani told us that MAJT is a replica and a smaller version of Mekkah. In the Muslim religion, devotees are subjected to the five pillars of Islam and that includes going to Mekkah and do their pilgrimage for 42 days. Although, there is also an alternative. I'm not quite sure what it's called but devotees who can't fit into the queue or afford to go there can use that alternative as they say.

A masjid is a sacred place of worship. It is a place for Muslims to pray. Miss Nani also informed us that every Friday, they open the gigantic umbrellas during the day time. She also mentioned that men are required to pray during Fridays. Within the premises, we also saw some familiar structures which are somehow a version to that in Mekkah. It was outstanding.

There was nothing more to say about this place. It is simply breath-taking! It was our last stop but definitely not the least. So, that's all and Terima Kasih!
